The Woodmont of Virginia Quail Hunt Experience
A tradition established in 1881
With the Woodmont of Maryland Tradition in mind, the grandson of Henry P. Bridges has created a similar Sportsmen’s Paradise for avid Quail hunters. Guests arrive on Friday afternoon and settle into the domicile-compound accommodation in the Main House and/or The Cottage. Comradery ensues around the automatic trap thrower, to sharpen a Sportsman’s wing-shooting skills for the wily Quail. The type of Gentleman/Sportsman who would enjoy Quail hunting, needs to be in shape, as the Saturday morning/afternoon and Sunday morning hunts are continuous walks for two-hour hunts. Quail are set over three different portions of the Farm property of two-hundred and sixty-one acres. Featured on thirty acres are eight Gamefields, planted with Sorghum cover strips surrounded by Quail Habitat. The Conservation long-term goal is to provide Quail Habitat and Sorghum grain for feed and nesting, in hopes the Quail will re-establish themselves on their indigenous mountain historical homelands.

The Setters were born on the Farm and bred with up to twenty-nine Field Trial Champions in their bloodlines and the ten of them were trained at Woodmont of Virginia Farm. They are kenneled in a professional six interior to exterior run complex with an eighth of an acre fenced training yard, where they are exercised seven hours each day. Three different braces of Setters are rotated over the course of the hunts. The aid of John Deere Gator is equipped and deployed with a four holstered gun rack and a double kennel. Sportsmen walk amidst rustic mountainous/hilly terrain and coveys of three to five Quail are pointed by the Setters and then flushed. The Five-Mile Mountain Range surrounds the Gamefields and Quail from the covey rise flush in great exuberance into the air and head for the cover of the woods. Consequently, hunters need to be talented Sportsmen shooters, as the set Quail are from a Quail Farm in North Carolina and the farmer raises 170,000 wily Quail each year. The Quail are freely flying all the time at the Quail Farm, which results in birds flying very fast.
Sportsmen guests will hunt with fresh Setters each of the hunts and then after Sunday morning’s hunt experience hunters are served lunch. The Chef Kristen Irvin cooking experience stems from years of learned Farm-To-Table unique process of growing/harvesting/preparing wholesome foods and Chef Kristen is exuberantly excited to serve fine dining culinary delights to the guests of Woodmont of Virginia Farm in the Atrium Library/Dining Room at Woodmont of Virginia Farm.
